Alan and Gaye McElroy  owner / operators of journeysouth believe Southland has much to offer those who seek to explore off the beaten track, far from the madding crowds.
Alan, your guide and driver was born and bred in the South Island. He has lived in Otago, Central Otago, Canterbury and Southland and hence is familiar with all the scenic spots in the South Island including the West Coast, Fiordland, Catlins and Stewart Island. His adventurous spirit has led him to explore New Zealand.

A keen fisherman, hunter, wild fowl hunter and tramper he has also played tennis, squash, and rugby and is currently a member of the Invercargill Golf Club.

A lifetime in business management which included a close association with farming has provided a wealth of information on farming practices. Alan’s wide general knowledge of industry and the natural environment means he is able to answer many questions about New Zealand.

journeysouth have the ability to provide a quality experience on demand. Their strength is versatility and Alan delights in coping with unexpected requests. Native bush walks, fishing, sheep shearing are among the requests he has delivered on.

For Gaye, a lifelong interest in singing and music and creating fashion garments has been the focus until recently when she discovered her artistic talents translated into painting in oils. Despite her love of the Southland landscape her paintings rather more reflect her former focus on fashion and music.
